Information on Treatments

Angela Cameron Reflexology offers clients with the choice of reflexology treatments on their feet and hands from a private and relaxing treatment room in Killay, Swansea. Sessions can be adapted for each client’s needs and mobile visits are also available.

Angela works from her family home and has a fully adapted room and chair that overlook the garden. She is totally dedicated to the growth of her practice and has developed a calm and warm atmosphere within her home.

You need to remove only your shoes and socks and although not mandatory, wearing loose clothing will ensure you are not restricted during your treatment.

What to expect from a reflexology treatment

The first treatment lasts for 90 minutes and involves a consultation about the client’s health and well-being, followed by a visual and an investigatory reflexology treatment .All bodily systems are covered in order to identify any imbalances.

Duopody enables me to customise each treatment for each client during future sessions, as not only can I treat the body as a whole but extra attention can be given to whole systems which present an imbalance. I will be guided by the reflexes found to be out of balance during the investigatory treatment and the clients presenting condition. This ensures that each subsequent treatment suits your individual, physical and emotional needs. Subsequent treatments will last for 60 minutes.

The experience of receiving a reflexology treatment is that it is very restful and enjoyable. Clients have commented that they sleep better, and feel clearer headed and refreshed in the days following the treatment.

It is important to mention that well trained reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice.

How many treatments do I need?

For reflexology to be effective, a weekly treatment will need to be made initially. Majority of clients commit to an initial course of six weekly treatments and health improvements are regularly reviewed. Most people begin to feel an improved sense of wellbeing and balance after two or three sessions. Then, clients may be seen fortnightly or monthly as part of a maintenance programme. However, this very much depends on the client’s health and how they feel.

Contraindications

It is important to point out that there are some contraindications in reflexology whereby a reflexologist is unable to temporarily treat a client due to some conditions and circumstances. These include:

  • severe cellulitis where it may be impossible to work the affected area
  • contagious or notifiable disease where there is a risk of infection to the practitioner and cross-infection to other clients
  • if the client is under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • if there are imminent medical tests particularly if they are hormone related as the results may be distorted by the improvements gained from reflexology treatment
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) despite the fact that reflexology improves circulation, it must be conducted when the client's condition is stabilised.

What to expect after a reflexology treatment

Everyone is unique and responds differently to a reflexology treatment: some people feel very relaxed once the treatment has finished, some feel more tired whilst others may feel alert and stimulated. Some people experience aching muscles, headaches, change in sleep patterns, cold symptoms, increased urination or bowel movements, a more positive attitude or heightened emotions.

Some people can feel a temporary worsening of symptoms, which reflexologists believe is part of the healing process as the body cleanses itself of toxins and impurities. These are normal reactions and should pass within 24-48 hours. Make a note of any reactions you experience for your next treatment. It is important to remember that any reactions that you experience are a positive sign that your body is responding to the reflexology treatment.

However, most clients feel an improved sense of wellbeing and balance after two or three sessions.

Aftercare Advice

It is really important to drink lots of water after your reflexology treatment to help flush out toxins, hydrate the body and improve energy levels.

If possible, try and relax for a few hours following treatment and avoid any strenuous exercise for the rest of the day as this will help the treatment work to its full potential.

Eat a light meal, and avoid tea, coffee and alcohol for the next 24 hours as these are stimulants and will reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
